Passports and Citizenship

The Norwegian Embassy in Amman will accept applications for issuing and renewal of passports. The application will be forwarded to the police in Oslo, who handle the information. The issued passport is then sendt back to the embassy, where it is handed out to the applicant.

– It is necessary to take measures to decrease the numbers of asylum seekers without a need for protection, says Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg.

If you have ever been domiciled in Norway since 1964, you hold a personal number. If you were born abroad or have never been a resident in Norway since 1964, you must apply to obtain a personal number.

If you have lost your norwegian passport, the embassy can issue an emergency passport for you. Please contact the embassy for more information.

The Act of 8 December 1950 relating to Norwegian Nationality contains the provisions which define Norwegian nationality and describe how Norwegian nationality is acquired.

A notification of change of name for Norwegian citizens living in Norway must be sent to the Tax department in Norway, the section for registration.
