Personal Number (Norwegian ID-number)

Last updated: 29/01/2012 // Norwegian citizens who were either born abroad or have not been residents in Norway since 1964, must obtain a personal number before a Norwegian Passport can be applied for. An application must be made through the Norwegian Embassy in Amman, Jordan. If you are uncertain of whether you have a personal number, please contact the Embassy.

When applying for a personal number for children, you must bring the following:

1. Child's birth certificate. The certificate must be in English/Norwegian language and legalized before they can be approved by the Norwegian authority concerned.

2. Parents' marriage certificate. The certificate must be in English/Norwegian language and legalized before they can be approved by the Norwegian authority concerned.

3. Parents' passports. It is very important that personal data relating to births abroad (such as the child's details, country of birth, parents’ names, their marital status, nationalities, etc.) is registered with the Norwegian Public Register.

3. Approval of Acknowledgment of Paternity form (“Erkjennelse av farsskap”-skjema).

Please be aware that the application process for a personal number may take several weeks.
