Jordan is playing a vital role in the Middle East peace process. The peace agreement between Jordan and Israel in 1994 was an important achievement and a crucial step forward in the efforts to bring peace and stability to the region. 24 April 2012 Jordan could celebrate being the first mine-free country in the Middle East. The Norwegian People's Aid opened their regional office in Amman in 2006 with extensive support from the Norwegian government. The project was managed by Norwegian People's Aid and the National Committee for Demining and Rehabilitation.
