With support from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 96 girls from six different countries met up in Amman last Monday for a week of football. Under the supervision of the Norwegian Football Association, they spent a week filled with all the elements of football: physical exercise, technical practice and fair play.
The Norwegian ambassador, Petter Ølberg, was present at the opening ceremony this Monday and witnessed the girls in action. “This is the fourth year the Ministry is supporting this camp and it’s obvious to see why we do it again and again” said the ambassador. “The project embodies so many of our core values: it strengthens intercultural ties and dialogue, it empowers young women and promotes team play. It’s a pleasure to witness, every year.”
Many of the participants come from conflict ridden societies where life is not always easy. Through this camp, football can be a way out; a way to meet new people, share experiences and get new ideas. While living and practicing together the girls form friendships and exchange experiences far beyond the football field. For many it is the experience of a lifetime.
