Laying of Foundation Stone for a Lutheran Church at the Baptism Site

On January 6 the foundation stone for a new Evangelical Lutheran church and retreat centre was laid down at the Baptism Site at Bethany–beyond-the-Jordan. Present at the occasion were i.a. Bishop Munib Younan of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Nayef Al Fayez and Ambassador Petter Ølberg.
The site is directly overlooking the Holy site where Jesus was baptized. The land was generously made available as a royal gift from HM King Abdullah. Construction will start shortly and hopefully be finished in 2013, thus providing Lutheran Christians from all over the world a new place of worship a this important historical and religious site.
