12/09/2009 // Petter Ølberg has been appointed as the new Norwegian ambassador to Jordan and Iraq. He comes from the position as deputy director general at the Department for Culture, Public Diplomacy and Protocol in the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and he has worked in the Ministry of foreign affairs since 1988. Before this Mr. Ølberg has served as a diplomat in Mexico City, Geneva and Berlin. Mr. Ølberg presented a copy of credentials to the foreign minister of Jordan, Nasser Judeh, 2 September, and will stay in Jordan for four years. The new ambassador is married and brings his wife and two children to Amman.

What is most important for you as Norway's new ambassador to Jordan and Iraq?

The most important for me is to maintain the bilateral relations between Norway and Jordan, to develop further these relations, and to uphold the good relationship between our two royal houses. Also, it is of great importance to me to normalise and intensify Norway's relations with Iraq i.a. through the opening of an embassy office in Baghdad.

How will you increase the links between Norway and Jordan and Iraq?

I will increase the links throught active networking in all different channels in society – political, cultural, business, NGOs etc.

What do you look forward to in your new job as Norway's ambassador to Jordan and Iraq?

I look forward to get to know Jordan, to learn about the culture, and to experience all the fantastic things possible in the country – and the warmer climate!
