Ambassador Ølberg presented his letter of credentials to Iraqi President Jalal Talabani

Last updated: 11/11/2009 // On Tuesday 10 November 2009, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani received credentials of the Norwegian ambassador Petter Ølberg in Iraq in al-Salam Presidential Palace, Baghdad in the presence of Foreign Minister Hoshiyar Zebari and head of Presidency Divan Nasser al-Aani. In addition to Ølberg, newly appointed ambassadors from Austria, Egypt and Belgium also presented their credentials.

President Talabani emphasized Iraq’s intention to expand and strengthen its relations with the world countries in a way that ensure the joint interests between Iraq and these countries.

For their part, the new ambassadors emphasized their countries support to the political process and democratic experiment in Iraq. They praised the major role of President Talabani in expanding the cooperation relations between Iraq and the international community.
 
This was the second trip to Iraq for Ambassador Ølberg. In the end of October he visited the KRG Department of Foreign Relations in Erbil, where he was received by the head of the foreign relations Falah Mustafa.

During that meeting, Ølberg and Mustafa discussed a range of issues facing the Kurdistan region including the establishment of the sixth KRG cabinet as well as the coming Iraqi parliamentary elections and relations between the Kurdistan region and Norway.

At the meeting, which was attended by the deputy head of the department Karwan Jamal, Falah Mustafa congratulated the new Ambassador on taking his new post hoping him all success.

Additionally, he expressed the department’s commitment to present support in their mission and to strengthen bilateral ties in different fields, especially in culture, economy and trade.
