The Jordanian Women’s Union hosted an event for the women working and living in their center. In addition to the Norwegian Embassy, a representative from the Spanish NGO SI was also present at the event.

The Jordanian Women’s Union (JWU) is an NGO located in Amman that works against gender discrimination and for the promotion of human rights. In Amman, they have a shelter for abused and vulnerable women, and they also offer rehabilitation and occupational training programs for women.

The General Manager of JWU, Nadia Shamroukh, opened the event by stating that even though Jordanian women’s situation has improved the last couple of years, there’s still a long way to go and many battles to fight.

The Embassy also participated at the International Women’s Day event at Columbia University Middle East Research Center in Amman, hosted by UNDP Iraq. This event focused on the situation of Iraqi women both in Jordan and Iraq. UNDP Iraq screened the documentary “Our Feelings Took the Pictures: Open Shutters Iraq”, followed by an open forum discussion on the future of Iraqi women living in Jordan.
