The International Ibsen Conference 2008

The International Ibsen Conference 2008 will focus on artistic freedom from different perspectives,
including censorship and constraints imposed by legislation as well as restrictions based on socio-
Political and cultural norms and values. A separate section will explore challenges and opportunities in
cross-cultural endeavours within fields of art. The Conference will this year also include
Nora's Sisters, a series of seminars initiated by The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs that serve
as a basis for dealing with current questions of equal rights in a broad sense, in various countries and
various cultures.

Ibsen Awards was established in 2008 in Skien, Henrik Ibsen's birth town, as a Secretary for The
International Ibsen Award, Stipends for international Ibsen projects and an annual International Ibsen
Conference.

The Conference will also be part of the International Ibsen Festival at The National Theatre in Oslo,
the awarding of the first International Ibsen Award in Oslo, presentation of the recipients of
the international Ibsen stipends and the Ibsen Award, the only award given to Norwegian
playwrights, in Skien.
