Diplomatic visit to Iraq

Last updated: 07/03/2011 // The Norwegian Ambassador visited Baghdad 6-10th of February as part of his regular visiting plan for the side accredited country. Congratulating on the new government formation was high on the agenda, as well as the bilateral relationship between Iraq and Norway.

In discussions with Osama al-Nujaifi (Speaker), Saleh al-Mutlaq (deputy Prime Minister), Hussein al- Sharastani (deputy Prime Minister), Abdul Kareem (Minister of Oil), Fouad Massoum (MP) and Baha al Araji (MP) the Ambassador was updated on the current political situation, the political program of the government and the security situation. Mr. Petter Ølberg also visited his Excellency Sayeed Ammar al- Hakeem, the head of ISCI. The Ambassador met with Alaa Mohie el-Deen to discuss a Norwegian-Iraqi cooperation on implementing the EITI principals in the petroleum sector. The Royal Norwegian Embassy stayed at the Swedish Embassy compound while in Baghdad, as Norway has established an Embassy office, co-located with the Swedish Embassy.
